Eminent Scientist Dr Mridul Hazarika has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of Gauhati University by Assam Governor Janaki Ballav Patnaik. Dr Hazarika is the Chief Scientist of Bhubaneswar-based Science Foundation for Tribal and Rural Resource Development.
He will replace Akhil Kumar Medhi, who is retiring from the post. “The Governor of Assam Janaki Ballav Patnaik, in the exercise of his powers as the Chancellor of Gauhati University… has appointed Mridul Hazarika as the Vice Chancellor of Gauhati University,” an official release said on 14thAugust 2013.
Hazarika, who hails from Jorhat, is also a Visiting Professor of School of Applied Sciences, CranfieldUniversity of the UK and the director of Tea Research Association Tocklai Experimental Station, Jorhat. Hazarika is also the recipient of several awards such as National Merit Scholarship, 1967 Rajiv Gandhi Rashtriya Ekta Samman, 2012 and Mahatma Gandhi Samman, 2012.
