The Football Player’s Association of India Awards 2014 (FPAI) has announced at the Park Hotel in Kolkata on 29th April. Daryl Duffy wins Best Foreign Player of the Year Award, Alwyn George wins the Young Player of the Season Award and Balwant Singh wins the Best Indian Player of the Year Award.
On the other hand, Shillong Lajong Football Club (SLFC) star midfielder Boithang Haokip has been awarded the “Fans Player of the Year”in the same award ceremony. Incidentally, Shillong Lajong FC is the first professional football club from the North East India to play in the prestigious I-League, which is the highest league in Indian Football.
A delighted Boithang Haokip said “It is a great honour to win this award and I would like to thank all the football fans across India who voted for me. I would like to dedicate this award to the Fans of Shillong Lajong for supporting me throughout the season. I would also like to extend my Heartfelt Gratitude to Everyone in Shillong Lajong for giving me the opportunity and helping me become a better player. Last but not least, I would like to thank my Family and Friends for always being there for me.”
