Noted Assamese filmmaker Jahnu Barua’s National Award winning Assamese film “Baandhon” is going to be release across India on July 5. “Baandhon” will be release with English subtitles in the country’s major metro cities by PVR Director’s Rare, an alternative programming initiative of PVR Cinemas to support the theatrical release of critically acclaimed and independent films.

Produced by the Assam State Film (Finance & Development) Corporation Ltd. (ASFFDC), the film is a story of an elderly couple, Dandeswar and Hkawni, whose lives are deeply impacted when their grandson goes missing in the attacks of 26/11 in Mumbai. The film won the best Assamese feature film at the 60th National Film Awards.

“Jahnu Barua is one of the most astute filmmakers in the country today. His film ‘Baandhon’ (Waves of Silence) cuts across language barriers and is a heart-wrenching story of an elderly couple coming to terms with a familial loss,” Sanjeev Kumar Bijli, joint managing director, PVR Ltd., said in a statement.

“PVR Director’s Rare is proud to present Jahnu Barua’s sublime and incredible work to film aficionados across the country,” added Bijli.

On the other hand, Barua described the news of the nationwide release as exciting. “It is the first time an Assamese film is being released nationally. It is exciting not only for me but also for the Assamese film industry and for people of the state. I am very happy,” he said.

“Baandhon” features actors like Bishnu Kharghoria, Jatin Bora, Bina Patangia, Zerifa Wahid, Abastosh Bhuyan and Anshuman Bhuyan.
