Jeevan Kite Festival, a unique festival where Kite is a metaphor for ‘sky is mine till I’ve desire to fly’ theme, in a region which is otherwise dubbed as a ‘disturbed area’. Jeevan Initiative organizes Jeevan Kite Festival on the banks of river Brahmaputra in Guwahati every year since 2012. This year festival dates are 14-15-16 Feb 2014.
Why this Jeevan Kite Festival? The objectives are:
• Kite in this initiative is a metaphor for ‘sky is mine till I’ve desire to fly’ theme, in a region which is otherwise dubbed as a ‘disturbed area’.
• Creating an occasion for community kite flying, blurring ethnic or other divisions.
• Awareness on river Brahmaputra, its biodiversity conservation and tourism in the region.
• Celebrating life’s possibilities.
Various competitions and workshops are organized in this festival. Kite flying, river photography, kite painting, river painting, folk dance, instrumental music, paper boat making, rabaab tengaar ball (football with citrus fruit as the ball) and blindfold hide & seek (luka-bhaku) are prominent.
